Obituary for Sandra Kay Sexton (Black)

Sandra Kay “Punkin” Black Sexton, age 54 passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. Born in Gaston County on March 28, 1967, she was the daughter of the late Howard Matthew Self and Betty Gayle Woody. She was a member of the Baptist Faith. Sandy was a CNA and worked for various nursing homes and did private care. She enjoyed bargain shopping, doing crafts, playing with her cats and more than anything she loved spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Sandy is preceded in death by her daughter, Megan Sexton; a brother, Ricky Self, and two sisters, Naomi Self and Tammy Langley.
Sandy is survived by her partner, Ronald Childers; a daughter, Nikki Whitener and husband David of Bessemer City; five sisters, Brenda McBrayer and husband John of Myrtle Beach, Debra Herms of Myrtle Beach, Rachel Medford and husband Marshall of Gastonia, Karen Kirk and husband Devin of Indian Trail; and Hillary Self of Pendleton SC; three brothers, Buddy Self and wife Diane of Shallotte SC, David Self of Gastonia, and Mark Aland and Paula of Gastonia; five grandchildren, Preston Sexton and Summer, Leland Whitener, Courtney Whitener, Bobby Whitener, and David Whitener Jr “ Bubba”; a great grandchild, Ariel Whitener; and lifelong friend, Robert Barefoot of Bessemer City, and her cat, “Lucky”

Private Memorial service will be held at a later date.
