Samuel Dee Craig Jr., age 79, died Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Caromont Regional
Medical Center in Gastonia.
Born in Wayne County, Michigan on February 20, 1944, he was the son of the late
Samuel Dee and Dora Squire Craig.
Samuel was a member of the United States Army and the Lutheran Church of the
Redeemer in Gastonia, NC.
Samuel, affectionately known by his family and friends under the pen names of Platin
Sam and Super Sam, enjoyed computers and electronics. He was a movie aficionado
and a reading enthusiast. He was college-educated and worked professionally as a
plating chemist and as a high school chemistry teacher. Sam’s “Larger than Life”
personality will be greatly missed by all.
In addition to his parents, Samuel is preceded in death by his brothers, Garland Dee
Craig and Roy Melvin Craig.
Samuel is survived by his wife of 56 Years, Linda Heins Craig;
a son, Jeffrey Alan Craig of Hillsborough, NC;
a daughter; Jennifer Joanne Nielsen of Rock Hill, SC;
a sister, Evelyn Johanne Choroser of Vista, CA;
and grandchildren Trevin Jeffrey Craig, Corbin Collins Craig, Alexa Joy Craig, Kira
Maria Craig, Sophia Rose Nielsen, Erin Christine Nielsen
A Celebration of life will be held after the holidays, date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the American Diabetes
Association.
