Paul Vincent Murphy January 23, 1939 - December 23, 2023

Paul Vincent Murphy passed away on December 23, 2023 surrounded by his
family. Paul was born in Worcester, Mass. but spent most of his life in New York
City. While in NY, Paul worked as a Supervising Investigator for New York State
Tax Enforcement. In 1999, he moved with his wife Peggy, to Gastonia, North
Carolina. His life was filled with a love of family, an insatiable curiosity and a
zealous devotion to computers and books. As a young boy, Paul visited his
neighborhood library almost daily and this passion for reading and learning were
his best companions for the rest of his life. He is survived by his wife Peggy,
daughters Debbie Reed (Brad) and Terry Murphy, and their children and
grandchildren, his sister Joan Cortelli and his brother in law Bill McAllister
(Gretchen). For those wishing to make a contribution in Paul's memory, the family
suggests a contribution be made to the donor's local library. In closing, there is a
quote by George R.R. Martin that Paul would have loved and captures the
essence of the man we lost:
" I have lived a thousand lives and I’ve loved a thousand loves. I’ve walked on
distant worlds and seen the end of time. Because I read.”

Services will be private. Memorial will be held at a later date.
