Martha Breneman Bentley went Home to Jesus on Thursday, October 1, 2020. Born January 25, 1941, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Allen Bentley, Sr. and her parents, Arthur and Lillian Breneman, as well as two sisters and six brothers. She is survived by her daughter Terrie Bentley McKee and son John Allen Bentley II, son-in-law Greg McKee, daughter-in-law Amy Rosser Bentley, and grandchildren Sam and Jacob Duncan; Elli McKee Chisum; Sydney and Jack Bentley; Laura McKee; grandson-in-law Justin Chisum; and granddaughter-in-love Allyssa Hubbard. She is also survived by her sister Ruth Brown, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends at the Catherine Booth Garden Apartments in Gastonia. Martha Bentley loved to have fun, make people feel welcome with food and hospitality, and really enjoyed playing rummy (rumors of her cheating at cards are somewhat greatly exaggerated). She sacrificed so much to help others. She bravely fought a terribly brief battle with metastatic lung cancer, but because of Jesus’ victory, won a new body in heaven. In lieu of flowers, she requested that memorials be made to an organization she supported for many, many years: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/give/memorials-and-dedications.html).
