Obituary for Marie Bertie Hailey

Marie B. Hailey went home to be with her Lord and Savior February 23, 2022 peacefully at home with family.

She was born July 15, 1938 in Rockingham County to Garrell Edwin Hailey and Iris Lorraine Nichols. As a child Marie was independent and brilliant, two traits that she was known for her entire life.

She loved being "Nanny" to all that knew her. She was a proud Christian who did her best to help everyone she knew grow closer to Jesus. Marie knew her purpose on earth was to help, love and take care of people, which is exactly what she did. She raised her family in church and never wanted to miss a sermon from Joe Edwards.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving family: Ronald "Sonny" Payne, Celeste Kitchen, Melanie Payne, Eric Payne, Emily Bridges (Ross), Noelle Roberts (Michael), Dustin Turner (Sarah), Nick Kitchen, Meredith Payne, Jake Payne, Amy Payne, Chris Kitchen and Marvin Hartley. Brother: Sonny Hailey (Joanne), Linh Rendlman and Danny Shedd.

The light of her life were her precious great grandchildren: Layla, Jaxon, Brooklyne, Lily, Grayson, Mason, Kinsley, Raelynn, Sammy, Anna, Dracen, Barret, Wyatt, Dakota, Isaac, Alilia and Sidni.

To know Nanny Marie was to love her. Famous for her sweet tea and sassiness, she will live on in her family's memories.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to: St. Judes Children's Hospital, who held a very special place in her heart.
