Obituary for Lydia Mahrle (Schoon)

Lydia (Schoun) Mahrle, age 96 of Stanley, NC passed away of natural causes on Wednesday August 26, 2020 at 7:40 am at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, North Carolina. She was born in Brookfield, Illinois on June 13, 1924 to Joseph and Mary (Bazant) Schoun. Lydia was the 6th child of 10 children and the oldest daughter. In 1932, the family moved to a farm in Branch County, Michigan. She graduated in 1942 from Montgomery High school and earned a two year teaching certificate from Emmanuel Missionary College (now Andrews University) of Berrien Springs, MIchigan. Lydia married Alden Mahrle in 1951 and had three children. In 1998, Lydia and Alden retired and moved to North Carolina. Lyidia was a life-long active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Her most recent membership was at the Lincolnton Seventh-day Adventist Church, in Lincolnton, NC.and faithfully attended church every week until the COVID-19 pandemic Stay-at-Home orders were enacted. Lydia liked to play the piano and read books, especially history books and she loved her family, especially her brothers and sisters very much.

Lydia is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Schoun, six brothers, and one sister. She is survived by Cheryl Toney (daughter) of Iron Station, NC, Arden Mahrle (son) of Stanley, NC, April Mahrle-Henson (daughter) of Stanley, NC; six grandchildren: Nicole Nelson (Matt), Derick Mahrle, Darrell Mahrle (Amanda), Jillian Henson, Austin Henson, and Justin Henson, and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Ruth Kloosterhuis of Deland, Florida and her sister Alice Cunningham of Scottsdale, Arizona.
