Obituary for Jean Marie Zegarzewski (Young)

Jean Marie Zegarzewski, loving Mother, Sister and Grandmother, age 64, of Bessemer City, NC passed away on Monday, September 2nd 2019. She was the daughter of the late Warren Lincoln Young and Frances Rita Lynch. She was born in Winthrop, MA on January 4th, 1955.

As a child Jean grew up on a farm in Stow, MA with her parents where she tended to her horses and various farm animals. She attended Nashoba Valley Regional High School and attended college in Rhode Island. She was an avid rider and loved to play Polo, attend horse shows and often visited the shores of Rye Beach in Rye New Hampshire as her getaway for peace of mind. When it came to her horses she was always willing to share her time and ability with visiting friends and family. Even as a child her kind and caring heart reached out to all, in example during her times in MA, snow storms were a common occurrence. Jean and her mother (Frances) were always willing to share their kindness and caring by baking cookies and providing hot coffee for the utility workers that would plow or clear the streets of snow. As a young adult Jean worked as an Undercover Police Officer and taught at Harvard University where she felt she could make the biggest impact on her community. Jean later in life was stricken with brittal diabetes so severely she was told she would not be able to have children and hindered her ability to work. Jean's unwavering faith and passion for her dream from childhood to have her own family ultimately overcame this battle and she was blessed with three wonderful boys. This is where Jean spent the later part of her life, after moving to Dallas, NC, where she used her huge heart, infectious smile, inspiring personality, to empower and bring happiness to all she came in contact with. Jean spent her time raising her three boys, whom she will continue to be a role model for, being an huge part of the community, including being involved with the local police department, participating in Church activities, helping as teacher assistants, participating in animal care/rescue and in her spare time tending to her gardens and plants. She eventually resided with Belaire Care Center where her boisterous personality infected both the residents and staff. She will be missed by her community, family and friends.

Jean is survived by her sons; Thomas Warren Zegarzewski and his fiance' Heather Anne Lockear of Gastonia; David Ryan Zegarzewksi of Bessemer City; three grandchildren, Keira, Harley and Lucas Zegarzewsk; her sister: Shirley Simon; and sisters of the soul Jane Martin and Shirley Brewer and other neices and nephews. She has also joined her late son Wesley Taylor Zegarzewski, her parents, and her sisters Dorothy and Carolyn.
