Obituary for James Othell Stepp
James "Spud" Stepp, 72 of Gastonia, NC passed away on Friday July 28, 2023. He was the son of Troy and Rosa Stepp.
Spud had unconditional love for his parents and his in-laws James "Hotdog" and Estelle Johnston. He found great joy in picking on his kids and grandkids. In his younger days you could often find him fishing, hunting, or enjoying his boat with his family. Mostly recently Spud loved to watch wrestling, wearing his flannel shirts and robes, and smoking his cigarettes and drinking his sundrops.
In addition to his parents and in-laws, he was preceded in death by his brother in-law Jimmy Johnston.
Spud is survived by his wife of 53 years Starr Johnston Stepp. His step father Hubert Jenkins. Children Julie and husband Monty Pace, Michael and wife Lauren Stepp. In addition He leaves behinds 7 grandkids, Hannah and husband Cody Weaver, Courtney and fiance Jonathan Russell, Peyton, Christian, Madisyn, Ariana, and Everleigh. One great grandchild Taelynn.
He is also survived by two sisters. Patricia and husband Randy Lewis, Ann and husband Johnny Mack Bradshaw, numerous nieces and nephews, and beloved canines Nipper and Pixie.
We will deeply miss the smell of his cigarette, the sound of his TV, and his jokes. But the memories will last forever.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
