Gary Irvin Lucas, age 67 died Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. Born on December 24, 1953 he was the son of Emily Viola Smith Lucas of Pikeville and the late Lindsey Carr Lucas Sr. He was a member of East Alarka Baptist Church in Bryson City. Gary served in the United States Army. He enjoyed working on cars, watching football, Nascar and fishing. In addition to his father, Gary is preceded in death by a son, Joe Hendrix; and a great grandson, Levi Hendrix.

In addition to his mother, Gary is survived by his wife of 43 years, Margaret Morgan Lucas; two sons, Lenny Hendrix of Statesville and D. J. Hendrix of Gastonia; special nephew, Travis Morgan; five grandchildren, Whitney Jordan and husband Jonathan, Todd Hendrix and wife Samantha, Jade Hendrix, Spenser Hendrix, and Ada Hendrix; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Lucas Pierce and husband David, Leigh Lucas Harper and husband Joseph; four brothers, Lindsey Lucas Jr. and wife, Beverly, Stanley Lucas and wife, Gail, Bill Lucas and wife, Sharon, Rev. Hoyt Lucas and wife Cindy; and best friend, Frank Cassada.

Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 3:00pm in the chapel of A Simple Service with Rev. Hoyt Lucas officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm.
