Edgar “Doug” Otis Phillips Sr., age 65 died Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. Born in Gaston County on October 30, 1955, he was the son of the late Everette William Phillips and Doris Eugene Smith Phillips. Doug was a member of East Belmont Freewill Baptist Church. Doug was a collector and enjoyed collecting cars and knives. In addition to his parents, Doug is preceded in death by two brothers, Darrell Phillips and Ricky Phillips; a sister, Deborah Litton.

Doug is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nancy Goble Phillips; two daughters, Lisa Spry and husband Shane of Cherryville, and Ashley Phillips and fiancee Brandon Thornburg of Clover SC; a son, Edgar “Doug” Phillips Jr. and wife Michelle of Gastonia; five sisters, Melissa Presley and husband John of Gastonia, Darlene Phillips of Gastonia, Geneva Phillips of Gastonia, Gayvene Hoagland of Statesville and Tammy Dover of Sharon SC; step mother, Esther Phillips of Sharon SC; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Ricky, Shane, Liam, Isaac, Lisa, and Kia; and a host of nieces and nephews

Memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at East Belmont Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Scotty Stewart and Pastor Larry Weber officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
