Obituary for Doris Ann Sherrin (Hill)

This is really a memorial for Dean and Doris, who lived a happy life as a couple together for 64
years. This is not a sad story, but rather one of unparalleled life, love, and devotion to their
Savior, their family, and to each other.
On June 13th, 2020, Harold Dean Sherrin, 83, passed away from difficulties related to
Alzheimer's, he was welcomed home to his Savior. The celebration of life he deserved could not
take place because of the Covid epidemic and Doris's health.
On July 14, 2022, Doris Ann Hill Sherrin, 83, passed away from dementia-related problems and
was taken home to be with her Savior.
This brings us up to date and the story begins.
Dean was born on November 16, 1936, in Mount Holly, North Carolina, to Samuel Worley
Sherrin and Verline S. Stowe.
Doris was born on May 12, 1939 to Wade Hampton Hill and Estel Violet Collins Hill in Mount
Holly, North Carolina.
After attending the local schools and residing in Gaston County, their paths crossed, and a
lifelong love began. Their families were united, and a family tree began to grow.
Dean and Doris were predeceased by their parents, as well as their two sons, Mike and Butch
Sherrin, Dean's siblings Charles "Spivey" Sherrin, Alice Bentley, Wilma Farris, and Doris's sister
Judy Biggerstaff. Despite the fact that each loved one's passing brought heartache, Dean and
Doris were able to overcome the storms of life and live it to the fullest. They continued to share
life and faith with those who were here to be loved and cherished. Those dear ones are -
Son, Kenny Sherrin and wife Deana
Daughter, Millie Doster and husband James
Grandchildren, Amanda Stanley and husband Ryan, Ayla Sherrin, Justin Sherrin and wife
Kristiana, Cody Sherrin, Josh Doster and wife Kristen, Taylor Doster, Caleb Doster and wife
Amber, Grace Doster, Calan Sherrin and wife Kayla, Bella Sherrin, and many great-grandchildren
Doris’s Siblings – Brenda Leonard and Husband Dickey, Tony Hill and wife Susan, and Tavia
Weaver
For 43 years, the couple attended Second Baptist Church in Mount Holly, North Carolina.
While Dean served with a kind spirit in ways that only specific people will be able to tell, Doris
taught and loved the youth. They were especially fond of the Angel Christmas tree for the
children in the Mt. Holly area. They also cherished taking vacations with their relatives and

church friends. Dean and Doris always made sure that their kids and grandchildren had a
fantastic time at the beach every summer. They engaged in a variety of activities with the kids,
including going out to eat, boogie boarding, and golf.
By working hard (Dean at Consolidated Freight and Doris at Gaston County Dyeing) and
simply being good people who struggled through the bad times and laughed through the good
ones, they were heroes to those around them. Though there aren't many titles to use with their
obituary, there is one, "Faithful", which perfectly captures how they lived their lives. Faithful to
loved ones, close friends, and a loving God, even if life wasn't always kind to them, they
remained faithful to our family by holding on and refusing to give up, faithful to love one
another in a way that is only possible through God.
It was decided to hold a joint Celebration of life for them both because Mr. Sherrin's family
would not have been able to express their love and respect for him at the time of his passing
due to the epidemic.
This Celebration will take place on Sunday, July 17th, 2022 at Second Baptist Church
740 RankinAve. Mt Holly NC 28120.
Visitation 1:00 – 2:00
Service 2:00 – 3:00
Private graveside service
We ask individuals who would want to send a gift in memory of Dean and Doris instead of
flowers, think about giving to the children's and youth ministry at Second Baptist Church, Mount
Holly. This will give young people the chance to experience what Dean and Doris did: hear
about, understand, and receive the personal gift of salvation through Christ. This mentioned
gift of salvation is what enabled them to live a life of love and complete their story in a
Christ-centered life.
