Obituary for Betty Jo Johnson (Self)
Betty Jo Self Johnson, 84, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Peak Resources of Cherryville. Born in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Andrew Sr. and Sallie Mae Ingle Self. She was a member of New Heights Baptist Church in High Shoals and a graduate of Tryon High School, class of 1955. Betty Jo loved her family, gardening, flowers and traveling.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, C. A. Self, Cone Self, Bobby Carol Self, and Archie Self; sisters, Elene Crouse and Becky Wyte; daughter, Donna Johnson Loring.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gerald Johnson of the home; daughter Ann Johnson and husband Hall Spargo of Dallas; daughter Marline MacEachern and husband David of Gastonia; son Jerry Johnson of Kings Mountain; sister-in-law Clara Self of Gastonia; brother-in-law Joe Wyte of Kings Mountain; special cousin and friend Ann Ingle of Dallas; four legged companion Kate; and a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Service will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gaston County Hospice, P.O. Box 2984, Gastonia, NC 28054.
