Obituary for Betty Briggs (Brockman)
Betty “Nana” Briggs
Betty Briggs, AKA Nana, born June 7, 1948 left this Earth peacefully on March 30, 2019, to dance and sing for eternity with the love of her life, Wayne, who has been waiting a long time for her.
She leaves behind three children, Darlene Rudisill, Emily Parker, and Mitchel Rhyne, three step children, Cyndy Weldon, Benjamin Briggs, and Lori Burcham, sons and daughter in law, Scott Rudisill, Brian Parker and Stephanie Rhyne, two four legged companions, Maggie and Dixie, many friends, and nine grandkids, who were the absolute light of her life. Her proudest title, by far, was Nana. She said many times that there was nothing better in the world like loving her grandbabies. She will by missed terribly by so many, especially those grandbabies.
She spent the majority of her time working in textiles and then later in life decided to go back to school to become a Paralegal. This is a testament to her hard work ethic and dedication to always improving oneself. Despite how hard she always worked, she was always present and her children’s biggest fan and supporter.
Nana was a huge sports fan and especially loved the Carolina Panthers and the Boston Red Sox. You would never walk in her house and see a Hallmark movie, it was almost always sports with the exception of her beloved crime dramas. She yelled with the best of them at her kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events and never missed one she didn’t have to. She shared her love of sports with her family and spent many hours with them yelling and cheering on her favorites.
The services for Betty will be Saturday April 6, 2019 at Westview Baptist Church, 3385 Fairview Drive, Gastonia, NC 28052. Visitation will be from 12pm until 1pm, with the service immediately following at 1pm. The service will be officiated by her son in law, the Rev. Scott Rudisill. Some of her family and friends have chosen to honor her by wearing Panthers and/or Red Sox attire or colors.
Betty was a big supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. She donated to them each month for years. It was a charity that was near and dear to her heart. The family is asking in lieu of flowers, for donations to St. Judes to honor her memory and love for children.
“God saw she was getting frail and old,
He lay his hand in hers and took hold.
So when it came time for her heart to have a rest,
It proved to us down here that God only takes the best.
In life we loved her dearly in death we’ll do the same,
Even though it was hard the day God called her name.
I long for you to be here again,
But I know that now you’re out of pain.
So when times get hard I know you’re here,
I place my hand on my heart and feel you near.
Now again with the man that holds your heart,
For now you two are no longer kept apart.
So the last words I say are going to be so very true,
Goodbye Nana, I love and so dearly miss you.”
