Obituary for Barbara Ruth Bunch (Irvine)

Mrs. Barbara Irvine Bunch, 94, of Lincolnton, NC passed away on Friday, February 11. 2022 at home. She was born December 29,1927 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late James Wallace Irvine and Ruth Irvine. She studied fashion design and worked at Kaufmans Dept Store in Pittsburgh where she met the love of her life, James Stanley Bunch, and they married on June 18, 1949. She became a homemaker and raised their 5 children. She was a veteran of 27 moves, both in the US and Indonesia, due to Dad’s work building power plants for Bechtel, Inc. Home was always where they were. She was an expert in packing up her home and going to the next one. Her last move was in 2007 when they moved to Lincolnton with their daughter, Barbara, and lived with her until her death.
Mom was an avid bridge player and played the week she died. She so enjoyed all of her children, 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She loved Lincolnton and enjoyed her friends and her bridge group at the Senior Center.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, son Stephen Douglas Bunch, and her sister, Paula Gallagher.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Austell (Dan) of Lincolnton, Beth Jackson (Marty), Phoenix, AZ; sons: JR Bunch Lincolnton, Bradley Bunch Viet Nam, and John Bunch Monroe, NC; grandchildren: Dan Austell III (Lynn) of Washington, DC, Jennifer Austell (Ardell) of Locust, NC, William Bunch (Lauren) Charlotte, NC, Rebecca Bunch of Monroe, NC, Steven Bunch of Clemmons,NC, and Haley Bunch of Monroe, NC; and great grandchildren: Alexis Fonville, Sara Austell, Anthony Austell of Charlotte, NC, Jahsiah Lowe of Locust, NC, and Troy Bunch, Owen Hays and Addie Hays of Monroe; and sister, Pat Silva of Spring,TX.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Daniel Senft and Cody for their compassionate care. Also, Amy Steinhoss, Lymphedema specialist, Gifty Walker, RN and Melissa, RN from Interim Home Health for their kindness and care.
Also, to the ladies of the Bridge Club for their friendship and making mom “one of the gang”.

At her request there will be no funeral. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 19 from 1:30 – 4:30 pm at the home of her daughter, Barbara Austell, 131 Labans Lane, Lincolnton, NC.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
